COMMUNICATIONS STUDIES
Recommended courses for various career interests:

All Communications Studies students should take:
* At least one uppder-divsion writing course (preferably Fall of your senior year)
* An acting or public speak class (such as THEA 10, THEA 50, or THEA 109)

Foreign Service, Travel, International or Multicultural Fields
  • Focus on courses which examine culture in a global perspective
  • Courses in Anthropology, Economics, English, Film & Visual Culture, Sociology, Political Science and Women's Studies would be valuable
Government, Public Service, Law
  • Consider courses which examine the techniques used by individuals, institutions, and social movements to influence public affairs. The ability to analyze and evaluate these techniques would be invaluable.
  • Courses in Anthropology, English, Film & Visual Culture, Political Science, and Sociology would be particularly valuable.
Entertainment Industries
  • Consider classes in Creative Writing, English, Film & Visual Culture, and Theater
  • Courses in any discipline which examines mass media and popular culture would be valuable.
Marketing and Advertising
  • Consider courses in Art, Art History, Creative Writing, English, and Film & Visual Culture
  • Courses in any discipline which examines mass media and popular cultural would be valuable
  • A minor in Sociology, Business Administration, or Economics would also be beneficial
Business, Management, Human Resources & Development, Corporate Communications
  • Consider courses which emphasize the structures and interactions of social organizations. The role of media and information technology in a global setting would be particularly helpful.
  • A minor in Sociology, Business Administration, or Economics could be an asset.
